Walk sales floor, window display, stockroom and staff area during trading or after close. Write what you can see without opening plant. After-close display lighting is recorded only after close. Changes must be authorised ordinary controls. Necessary safety lighting, ventilation, refrigeration and access arrangements stay intact.

Calculate simple payback from wattages and costs you enter. Log a meter or bill period separately. Use the office walk for office rooms. Record who a document names before altering lighting.

What this shop walk records

One walk is one shop, one date and one hours context of trading or after_hours. Zones are only sales_floor, window_display, stockroom and staff_area. A plant cupboard is recorded against one of those four zones, with its location written in the observation.

The checks are display_lights_after_close, lights_empty_zone, heater_and_street_door, fridge_door_open and plant_or_electrical_closed. display_lights_after_close applies only after close. During trading that check is not_applicable. fridge_door_open is not_applicable when the zone has no cabinet. The sheet does not estimate a saving and does not set a temperature.

Fill in the zone checklist

Download both files. Save a copy of the blank walk and type into that copy.

The files are plain CSV. You type every cell.

Columns: shop_name, walk_date, hours_context, zone, check_id, observation, priority, action, person, action_date, row_status.

priority is fix_now, schedule, ask_specialist, no_action_needed or not_applicable. row_status is recorded when the observation and priority are filled and, for an actionable priority, the action, person and follow-up date are also filled. A recorded plan is not completed work.

fix_now is only an authorised ordinary control without tools: switch off extra display lights after close if that does not remove necessary safety or access lighting, close a street door that is open while heating is on if it is safe, or close a fridge door that was left open. Plant, boilers, gas and electrical spaces stay closed. A closed plant space with no observed fault is no_action_needed. ask_specialist is used only when the observation states a specific question or concern.

Do not add the office walk’s six check identifiers. Wattage arithmetic stays on the LED calculator. Period kilowatt-hours stay on the energy log.

Temperature is not a setpoint on this sheet

The 1992 workplace regulations require a reasonable indoor temperature during working hours. HSE says that is usually at least 16°C, or 13°C if much of the work is strenuous. There is no maximum on that page. Those figures are not a shop heating target.

Worked example: fictional Millbridge Outfitters after close

The example is fictional. 12 October 2026, after hours.

Zone and check What was written Status
Sales floor, display lights Extra display circuit still on. Safety lighting already on. Fix now. Recorded plan. Safety lighting left on.
Stockroom lights Already off. No action needed.
Window heater and door Heater on and street door ajar. Schedule. Recorded plan.
Staff area fridge No fridge cabinet. Not applicable.
Staff area plant cupboard Cupboard door viewed from the staff area; closed, no fault seen. No action needed. Not a specialist referral.

Limits

This walk is not ESOS. It does not service refrigeration. Food-preparation equipment stays on the kitchen sheet. A walk does not prove a bill will fall.
